History of our Program

Our program was established in 2001 by then Dean Dr. A. Blanton Godfrey to provide education and certification in Six Sigma. Before joining NC State, Dr. Godfrey served as Chairman and CEO of Juran Institute and Head of Quality Theory and Technology Development at AT&T Bell Labs. Since its inception, the program has provided Lean, Six Sigma, and Lean Six Sigma training for over 5,000 professionals in manufacturing, healthcare, government, education, food processing, finance, insurance, and others. The success of their projects has resulted in more than $600 million in financial impact on their organizations, as reported in their certification projects. Each program exceeds the American Society of Quality’s (ASQ) Body for Knowledge standards by ensuring students are exposed to ever-evolving advancements.

In 2022, we extended our offerings to include courses that provide you and your team with the skills needed to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world. This includes adding innovation courses in Design Thinking aimed at helping participants develop novel products and services and a course in Systems Thinking aimed at assisting leaders in understanding the complexities encountered in organizational systems and how the appreciation of such complexities impacts the development of solutions that will help ensure a sustainable future for humanity.
