How long are the classes?
- White Belt course is 0.5 day
- Yellow Belt course is 2 days
- Green Belt course is 8 days (2 sessions of 4 days each, with 3 to 4 weeks between sessions)
- Black Belt course is 16 days (4 sessions of 4 days each, with 3 to 4 weeks between sessions)
- Master Black Belt course is 16 days (4 sessions of 4 days each spread throughout the year)
How frequently are the classes offered?
The following is for Public courses only. Private and Self-paced can happen at any time.
- White Belt course is held 2 times a year
- Yellow Belt course is held 3 times a year
- Green Belt course is held 3 times a year
- Black Belt course is held 2 times a year
- Master Black Belt course is held throughout the year. You may join at any session.
How much do the classes cost?
Refer to the registration page of the course for the cost.
Price will vary based on different factors.
Where are classes held?
Public courses are normally held at the North Carolina State University campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. Private/Corporate classes can be held at the customer’s desired location or online. Also, check out our online courses.
Am I required to go through Green Belt to get my Black Belt?
Yes. A prerequisite to participate in the Black Belt course is a Green Belt certification as the course builds on your requisite knowledge and skills.
What are the requirements to acquire a certification?
To earn a certificate of attendance for any of our programs, you must attend training and pass an assessment at the end of the training. In addition, for our Lean Six Sigma Belt certifications, you will need to complete a project that satisfies the requirements for that level of training.
How long do I have to acquire one of the Lean Six Sigma certifications?
There is no time requirement. We encourage you to work on a project during training and complete it as soon as possible for your benefit. It is to your benefit to complete the project as soon as possible to earn your certification.
Is this program accredited/authorized?
While many training providers offer claims of being accredited, there is currently no central governing body for any of our improvement and innovation programs. You are better served to review the programs’ requirements and how they support their students versus an accreditation claim. Look for well-respected programs that meet your needs. As it relates to our Lean Six Sigma course, we do offer programs comparable to the ASQ Body of Knowledge documents.
Do you offer financial aid or sponsorships?
We do not have financial aid or sponsorships. We do not have the funding for these. However, we offer discounts for students, employees of the university, and multiple students from the same company.

Do you offer ECUs or PDUs?
We can provide them if requested. Please contact us for the process.
Do I have to renew my certification?
You do not. Once you have taken the training and met the requirements, you are certified. We do not believe is recurring membership charges like some other program.
Do you mentor the students through their projects?
Our instructors are there for you before, during, and after your certification journey.
What is the minimum/maximum number of students needed for an onsite/corporate class?
For a private class, we ask for a minimum of 6 students. The maximum for one instructor we prefer is 50 students for White or Yellow Belt and 30 students for other belt levels. We do not require any specific software for the course.
What topics are covered in each level?
The syllabi for each course are provided on our website.
What software do I need for a Lean Six Sigma course?
You will need software for the Lean Six Sigma courses. Yes. The options are JMP, Minitab, and JASP. These are listed in the order of ease of use and functionality. While we offer JASP, an open-source product, it does not have the functionality of JMP or Minitab. Master Black Belt students are required to have JMP.
Are meals included?
When our public courses return to campus, we do provide a light breakfast, lunch and snacks.
Is there a discount for local hotels?
There are a number of hotels located near campus that provide discount rates. We can provide you with assistance in which hotels work with the university.
Do you have a refund/cancellation policy?
Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations more than 10 business days prior to the course start date will be refunded minus a $25 cancellation fee.
- Cancellations 10 or less business days (minimum 2 weeks) prior to the course start date will be refunded minus a $50 cancellation fee.
- Cancellations on or after the course start date will not receive a refund; no shows will not receive a refund.
- For online course cancellations, if the online material has been accessed by the participant, a refund will not be processed.
- NC State reserves the right to cancel courses due to low enrollment.
- If we cancel a course, we will give a minimum of one week’s notice and a full refund.
- In the event of inclement weather, we will contact you regarding schedule changes, if any.
Refund Policy

- Cancellations on or after the course start date will not receive a refund.
- No shows will not receive a refund.
- For online course cancellations, if the online material has been accessed by the participant, a refund will not be processed.
- Credit card refunds require up to 48 hours and will be credited back to the original card.
- Check refunds require up to 2 weeks and will be issued in the same name (organization or person) as the original check. A W-9 may be needed to process a check refund.
